As a multimarket area, Natomas fits the bill for buyers, builders

Natomas. It's the place where the Sacramento Kings and their fans have ridden the waves of playoff frenzy inside Arco Arena. It's the place where the innovative Inderkum High School opens in coming months as a public school site with an American River College educational center and public library.

And it's the place where new retail and office buildings have emerged as the residential market has boomed in recent years.

Natomas, an area in a 3-mile radius within Sacramento, has proved a multimarket draw for buyers, says Dave MacIntosh, regional director of the Meyers Group, a real estate research firm.

"From a strategic standpoint, you can sell to two buyers: buyers who work locally in Sacramento or ... the buyer who has to commute down the 80 corridor to the Bay Area," he says. "That's why I think Natomas has done so well and continues to do well."

Since September 1999, more than 7,000 homes have been planned and nearly 6,000 of them sold, according to a report from the Meyers Group.

And another 4,000 dwellings, including condominiums and detached homes, are in the preliminary planning stage, a Meyers report reads.

Here's a look at some of the developments still available to buyers:
